Made for You | All New Generation Volvo Trucks Launched in Dunhuang

Themed as “Made for you”, the all new Volvo trucks launch event was held in Dunhuang city, an oriental art center, on 19th-21st of May. Management teams from Volvo Trucks China, Volvo Group China, and Volvo Financial Services, together with more than 200 guests attended the launch.

First-attempt live-streaming matrix allows Volvo potential customers to enjoy the launch. More than 1.8 million audiences watched the launch via different platforms. And during the launch, 78 orders were confirmed from retail customers. After the debut in Dunhuang, a series of roadshows in five cities will embark from June to August, as part of its demonstration of Volvo Trucks’ leading technology and performance for all the customers and business partners in China.

Seasonal Gift in China - "Greener future with reduced carbon footprint" Giant panda habitat restoration project

On April 21st, Volvo Group China hosted a seminar on sustainable development and a series of activities for its “Greener Future with Reduced Carbon Footprint” Giant Panda Habitat Restoration and Afforestation Project in Ya'an.

On June 10, during the 16th China International CSR Forum in Beijing, this project was included in the official collection of "2021 Golden Bee Responsible Competitiveness Best Practices" under the category of Innovative CSR project. Moreover, Volvo Group China was awarded on 2021 GoldenBee CSR China Honor Roll.

VCE Shanghai Plant breaks production records in March

VCE Shanghai plant reached a record 757 units in March, marking the highest production rate since its establishment in 2002. Of those machines, 74% were new "in China, for China" models. The Shanghai plant worked closely with JTC, purchasing and sales team to overcome various difficulties and ultimately achieved the production record.

While pursuing the production output, the Shanghai plant also held a series of digital engagement activities, which strengthened employees' sense of belonging and improved their initiative and enthusiasm to pay attention to safety, quality and work process in busywork.

VFS Total Wholesale Solution goes live

In June, the VFS Total Wholesale Solution is available for production facilities in China. The solution provides solid digital support for the newly established China wholesale business model.

In the first phase, this tool has achieved inventory financing post-loan management. And the second phase will go live in July, covering more critical functions such as LUMP Sum Pay, Credit line Management, Audit Management as well as Functional Reports management. According to the plan, more capabilities will be introduced step by step.

An online 1HY business update meeting held in China

On June 23rd, 2021 Volvo Group China Half-Year Business Update Meeting was successfully held on Teams Live meeting with local colleagues’ online participation from all sites across the country.

Ma Jun, President of Volvo (China) Investment Co. Ltd., opened the meeting with an overall business update of Volvo Group in China, and business leaders shared 2021 1HY business performance and forecast for 2HY of 2021. Participants engaged in the Q&A session as well as online interactions.

On May 18th, the Embassy of Sweden in China, Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Committee on Social Responsibility of the Chinese Electronics Standardization Association and Shanghai Federation of Economic Organizations held the "Seminar Towards Carbon Neutrality: Opportunities & Challenges for Business" in Shanghai.

Mr. Xie Zhiqiang (Vice President, Public Affairs of VCIC) attended the meeting, exchanging the experiences and practices with other representatives of Chinese and European enterprises and institutions.

Volvo Trucks China worked together with Michelin China to deepen tire business. Customers can now order from a VTCN dealership and enjoy an efficient and convenient replacement. This cooperation raises VTCN parts to a higher standard while elevating customers’ uptime efficiency by offering integrated solutions.

Volvo CE China launches its own customer app

The Volvo CE customer app is the first direct channel between Volvo CE and customers, which signifies one step further in the digitalization journey.

With the aim of providing easy and personalized services around the machine lifecycle, this new app currently has five main functionalities: Customer fleet information/ Real-time machine data/ Product information/ Community interaction/ Machine maintenance.

Since the app was launched in May, it has been already downloaded more than 1,000 times.

64 GPE excavators ordered during the 1.5-hour live stream e-commerce event in China

The digital event took place on May 25th marking the launch of four models of the Heavy Duty range, the brand-new customer application and the upgraded services package.

The event received over 490,000 views and the engagement was high with over 14,500 live interactions. In total, 64 GPE excavators were ordered during the event and over 1,200 sales leads collected.

Two new products from VCE Linyi Hub are coming to the China market

On March 30th, two new products of pavers P6720DL and localized ECR18E successfully lined off in VCE Linyi Hub.

The localized compact excavator ECR18E are created to reduce costs, and be in closer reach for users, allowing fora shorter delivery cycle but better profitability.

The paver P6720DL complements the existing paver product portfolio with its flexible performance configurations, which can meet the different needs of the target groups with price advantages.

Volvo Penta China co-organizes the Danish high-performance hybrid wind power operation and maintenance ship promotional conference

On April 23rd, the Danish high-performance hybrid windfarm operation and maintenance vessel promotional conference was held at the Guangzhou Yinghui Southern Shipyard. As the power system supplier of the operation and maintenance vessel, Volvo Penta co-organized the event.

The conference is an important boost for the development of China's offshore wind power operation and maintenance market, which is conducive to promoting Volvo Penta's high-end solutions in an emerging market.

On June 7th, VFS China launched the e-Signature solution to reduce the need for manual signatures, which will make document-signing easier and more efficient.

VFS China continues to look for new ways to use digital solutions and simplify the whole transaction process. The e-Signature solution is a big milestone for VFS China in the quest to improve the customer experience through technological innovation.

Full Range of China 3 Bridge Project Lined off in JTC

All 10 models of the China 3 bridge project have been put into production according to plan, which took a year in total.

China 3 bridge is the transition project to make our product more competitive in the Chinese market combine Volvo latest technology and local solutions due to the delay of Cn4 and the uncertainties about the Cn4 timing and product strategy.

The 10 models were put into production with no delay, which demonstrates exceptional coordination between cross functional teams.

On March 23rd, Volvo Penta China Annual OEM Summit 2020 was held. Nearly 100 industrial and marine customers, sales dealers and Volvo Penta employees gathered in Shangri-La, Yunnan to attend.

The summit was to enhance communication with customers, review business performance of 2020, lay out future business plans, introduce new product and technological innovations, as well as organizational structure.

On March 25th, Volvo Penta's 2021 China Aftermarket Business Partners Conference was held in Shangri-La, Yunnan. More than 100 aftermarket dealers, service contractors, and representatives from Volvo Group and Volvo Penta China participated in the conference.

DFCV Longqing DDi16 engine successfully ignited

On May 25th, DFCV Longqing DDi16 engine (a prototype) was successfully ignited, which signifies an important step from product design towards industrialized manufacturing.

Independently developed by Dongfeng, Longqing DDi16 engine is a 16L high-horsepower, high-efficiency, and heavy-duty diesel engine, which represents the highest-end model of Dongfeng commercial vehicle powertrain. The model will be important for Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle to accelerate the construction of three-dimensional products and meet the needs of more efficient transportation.

Divestment of UD business from Volvo Group in China

On January 1st, according to Volvo Group’s agreement with Isuzu, UD Trucks China operations became fully independent. The relevant business transitions are finished by March 31st.

This marks a significant change which is GTP emerging technology purchasing now is hosting the GTP China AP team in place of the former GTP Japan-Australia-China.

In another major change, the China teams of Group IT, designated to UD Trucks business, joined UD Truck (China) Enterprise Service company, while the other IT teams for Volvo Group China became VCIC Tianjin Branch.

New ASK HR portal launched - find, request and manage your HR services

On May 24th, the ASK HR portal has launched and is accessible from the Violin start page. ASK HR is a new portal for any employees with a Volvo e-mail address.

At present, the portal allows employees, managers and HR professionals to find and request selected HR services as well as to keep track of the cases throughout the process. The full capabilities of the platform will be introduced step by step.

The Security Risk Management (SRM) Directive published on VGMS

By outlining security concepts, responsibilities, and setting clear requirements, the SRM Directive will improve SRM activities within Volvo Group.

Together with other SRM documents and programs, this directive represents the SRM framework to support the business by clarifying R&Rs related to SRM and providing support to identify and mitigate security risks in a cost effective and responsible manner.

Compliance and IP protection training conducted by Legal to Volvo Penta China

During Volvo Penta's 2021 China Aftermarket Business Partners Conference, Ms. Yang Xixi (Vice President, Legal&Compliance and General Counsel, VCIC) provided a training for Volvo Penta China aftermarket dealers and service contractors, to promote business partners’ awareness of Volvo Group compliance and IP protection policies and procedures, their roles and responsibilities and the consequences of noncompliance. This helped business partners understand how to identify and handle compliance issues and IP infringements in operations.

World Environment Day in China: Together we can be #GenerationRestoration

Following Volvo Group’s initiative #GenerationRestoration on this year’s World Environment Day, Volvo Group China also engaged in a series of hashtag challenges amongst employees via its local social media channels such as WeChat, LinkedIn and Instagram during June 1st - 4th.

Green Office Project: 5S & Decluttering activity

From February 26th to March 26th, Volvo Group China Green Office Project organized the 5S & Decluttering activity as one in a series of activities. Many colleagues have joined by cleaning and decluttering their office desks and shared the "Before vs. After" photos on Yammer.

Sustainable development of SML China in VPS workplace

To save energy and create a better environment for employees’ afterwork shower, SML China installed solar heating. This replaces the electronic heating, which can help to save 98,000 kWh of electricity every year and reduce costs by 82,000 CNY, with a return that will be seen less than 1 year.

At the same time, SML China also completed the lights renovation project within four weeks, equipping all warehouses with LED lights and removing 255 tubes, starters and footers but kept the old metal frames. These actions will help to save 82,092 kWh of electricity per year and reduce costs by 73,883 CNY. The payback of the project will be seen less than 3 years.

Volvo Group in China awarded Best Team by Sanlitun Labor Union

On April 26th, to celebrate the International Labor’s day, the Labor Union of Sanlitun Street in Beijing held an annual meeting to reward teams and individuals with outstanding performance during 2020. Volvo (China) Investment Co. Ltd. (VCIC) won the Best Team Award. Grace Huang and Lina Li, employees of VCIC were awarded the title of Advanced Individual.

JTC rolled out a wide range of employee activities

A series of employee activities were rolled out in Jinan Technology Center. The aim is to create a caring environment that elevates colleagues’ office morale and keep their bodies in shape, which is ultimately to the benefit of the work performance.

As part of these lively activities, the "Book Club" encourages colleagues to read more on the spare time to broaden horizons, the yoga class brings together colleagues to rest minds and stretch bodies between work, and the makeup class teaches basic makeup skills with the intention to help boost self-confidence.

Dragon Boat Festival is a very meaningful traditional festivals for Chinese people. In celebration, an event was organized at JTC, where JTC colleagues gathered to make traditional Chinese rice dumplings during lunch time. The activity was a joyful bonding experience that has helped to strengthen the relationship between colleagues.

Purchasing Community activity: Keep healthy and energized

To promote healthy work and a healthy lifestyle, on May 21st, GTP initiated a sharing and workouts session called “How to keep us healthy and energized” in the China purchasing community- Dragon. More than 20 colleagues from the purchasing network and other departments joined the session.

The knowledge and experiences regarding nutrition, a balanced diet, and keeping fit are shared, and some easy-to-do stretches are practiced. The activity promoted the One PU team spirit of being a high-performance team with passion and fun.

VCIC Labor Union members “Share the Care” by planting trees

On May 22nd, VCIC Labor Union organized a tree planting event at Badaling Great Wall. A total of 30 families participated.

Following the instruction on tree planting procedures, dozens of saplings were planted. The event ended successfully, and all participants received a “Share the Care” volunteer certificate afterwards in recognition of their hard day’s work.
